There is a new EPA regulation that states that any two-stroke engine bearing certain levels of emissions will no longer be available for wholesale purchase after January 1, 2010.  Let us be clear on this, this does not mean that 2-stroke engines are being banned.  Government regulations can be confusing so let's clear the air here.

This new regulation does not mean that anyone owning a 2-stroke engine right now will be banned from operating his boat on the water.  And it does not mean that dealers who have non-compliant inventory cannot sell those products to consumers.  Rather, what this does mean, is that engine manufacturers can no longer sell non-compliant engines.

Here's the good news, Evinrude E-TEC is currently and entirely compliant with these new regulations and has been since the announcement from the EPA made two years ago!  Here are a few things that you may not know about Evinrude E-TEC engines:

• Evinrude E-TEC has the lowest CO emissions level of any outboard engine brand.
• Evinrude is the only outboard engine brand to EVER win the EPA Clean Air Excellence Award.
• Evinrude E-TEC was the first and only two-stroke outboard engine certified for us on Lake Constance by the Bodensee-Schifffahrts-Ordnung Commission for operation on the pristine waters of Lake Constance, bordered by Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
• Evinrude was selected by the Tahoe Regional Planning Authority (TRPA), which enforces environmental regulations in the Lake Tahoe region of Nevada and California, as their outboard of choice, replacing their four-stroke outboards.
• Evinrude E-TEC was awarded the Best New Marine Environmental Product by the Canadian Safe Boating Council (CASBA).
• Evinrude E-TEC is on average up to 51% cleaner than competitive four-stroke outboards.
